The 22 question types
What every field type is for, and which one to reach for when two look similar.
Every type available in the Form fields step, and what each is actually for.

| Text | A short single-line answer: job title, company, dietary note. |
| Long text | A paragraph: a bio, a question for the panel. |
| An email address, checked for a valid shape. | |
| Phone | A phone number, with country dialling code. |
| URL | A link: their website, LinkedIn, portfolio. |
| Number | A quantity or an age. Can be capped with min and max. |
| Rating (stars) | A 1-to-5 star rating. |
| Dropdown | One answer from a long list. Compact. |
| Multi-select | Several answers from a list. |
| Checkbox group | Several answers, all visible at once. |
| Radio buttons | One answer, all options visible at once. |
| Date | A single date. |
| Date range | A start and an end date, in one field. |
| Time | A time of day. |
| File upload | A document or image: a CV, a student card, a logo. |
| Country | A country, from a standard list. |
| Consent / Legal | A tickbox with your terms above it. |
| Section heading | A heading to break up a long form. Collects nothing. |
| Matrix / Grid | The same question asked across several rows. |
| Hidden field | A value carried through without being shown. |
Choosing between the similar ones
Dropdown, Radio buttons or Checkbox group? All three offer a fixed list. Radio buttons for one answer from about five or fewer, where seeing every option matters. Dropdown for one answer from a longer list. Checkbox group when several answers are allowed and you want them all visible.
Multi-select or Checkbox group? Both take several answers. Multi-select is compact and suits long lists; a checkbox group shows everything at once and suits short ones.
Text or Long text? If the answer is more than a few words, use Long text — a single-line box tells people to keep it short whether you meant that or not.
Consent / Legal or Checkbox group? Consent is purpose-built: your terms display above a single tickbox, and you can make it required so nobody registers without agreeing.
Matrix / Grid. Use it when you would otherwise add six near-identical questions — rating five workshops on the same scale, for instance. It saves a lot of vertical space.
Hidden field. For a value you set rather than ask for, such as tagging where a registration came from. Registrants never see it.
Notes worth knowing
File upload can be limited by file type and maximum size — see Edit a question. Ask for the smallest thing that does the job; large uploads on a phone at a conference fail often.
Phone is the field to use if you plan to send WhatsApp messages. A phone number collected in a plain Text field will not be reliably usable for messaging.
Section heading collects nothing, so it never appears in your exports.
Common problems
Your dropdown has no options. Options are added per field. See Edit a question.
A required question is blocking people. Required plus a strict validation rule (a minimum length, a file type) is the usual cause. Test the form yourself.
An answer is missing from your export. Section headings collect nothing, and a field restricted to one attendee type is blank for everyone else.
