Put attendee details on a badge with merge tags
One template, everyone's name — how merge tags fill in per-attendee details.
A merge tag is a placeholder that is replaced with that attendee's own details when the badge prints. It is why you design one template rather than a thousand badges.
Steps
- Open Badges and select your template.
- Add or select a Text element.
- Type the tag into the text, in double curly braces.
- Open Merge tags in the designer for the list of what is available.

Badge designer merge tags panel listing available tags - Save, then print a test badge to see it filled in.
Mixing tags and ordinary text
Tags sit inside normal text, so you can write:
{{first_name}} {{last_name}}
or combine them with your own wording on one line. Everything outside the braces prints exactly as typed.
Your form's answers are available too
As well as the standard details, the answers people gave your registration form can be placed on the badge — their company, their job title, their workshop track.
This only works if you actually asked. A badge designed around a question you never added prints blank.
Decide what goes on the badge before you finalise your registration form. Realising in print week that you never asked for company name is a common and entirely avoidable problem.
What happens next
Tags are resolved for each attendee at print time. Anyone with no answer for a tag gets an empty space where it would have been.
Common problems
The tag prints as literal text. Misspelled, or missing a brace. Copy it from the Merge tags panel rather than typing from memory.
It is blank for some people. They have no value — usually someone added manually, since that route does not collect form answers.
Long names break the layout. Design against your longest real name. Export your attendee list, sort by name length, and test with the worst one.
Names look wrong in Arabic. Use a font that supports Arabic. A Latin-only font renders Arabic as empty boxes.
You want a fallback when a field is empty. Not supported — an empty tag prints nothing. Either make the question required, or lay the badge out so a gap looks intentional.
