Scan QR codes at the door

Use a phone or tablet camera to scan tickets, and switch between checking in and checking out.

Who can do thisowneradmincheckin

Scanning is much faster than searching. A practised desk clears roughly one person every few seconds.

Steps

  1. Open Check-in on a phone or tablet.
  2. Tap Scan QR and allow camera access when the browser asks.
Check-in page with the camera scanner open and the IN and OUT direction toggle
Check-in page with the camera scanner open and the IN and OUT direction toggle
  3. Check the direction toggle says IN.
  4. Point the camera at the attendee's QR code. It reads and checks them in automatically.

The scanner keeps running, so the next person can step straight up.

Direction: IN and OUT

The toggle sets what a scan does.

Whoever is on the desk needs to know this toggle exists. A lane accidentally left on OUT checks arriving guests straight back out again, and you will not notice until your numbers look wrong.

Repeated scans are handled

Scanning the same code twice in quick succession does not double-count. The scanner ignores an immediate rescan, so a code lingering in front of the lens is not a problem.

Getting good reads

What happens next

Each scan updates the live numbers on every device with the page open, so a second desk sees the same figures.

Common problems

The camera will not open. Browser camera permission was refused, or the page is not on https://. Check the site permissions for your event address, and reload.

It focuses but never reads. Screen brightness, or the code is too small. Ask them to zoom into the image.

Wrong person checked in. Switch to OUT, scan them out, then find the right person. Or fix it from the attendee list.

A message appears instead of a check-in. Intended — see What the check-in messages mean.

You want a badge printed at the same time. Use the print kiosk.
