Personalise emails with merge tags

Insert each recipient's name, ticket and QR code into an email automatically.

Merge tags are placeholders replaced with each recipient's own details when the email is sent.

The tags

Steps

Open Email editor and select a template.
Type the tag into the subject or body, braces included.
Save, then send yourself a test.

Using them well

In the subject line. {{first_name}}, your ticket for {{event_title}} gets opened more than a generic subject.

Include both QR forms. {{qr_image}} for the scannable code, and {{qr_code}} as text underneath. When an email client blocks images — which happens constantly — the text code is the only thing standing between your attendee and a manual lookup at the door.

Do not overdo it. An email that repeats someone's first name four times reads like a mail merge, which is exactly what you are trying not to sound like.

Test with an attendee who has an unusual name — one word only, or a very long one. Dear {{first_name}}, produces Dear , for anyone whose name did not parse into parts, and that is the email your most senior guest receives.

What happens next

Tags are resolved per recipient at send time. Anyone with no value for a tag gets an empty space.

Common problems

The tag printed literally. Misspelled or missing a brace. Copy it from the table above.

It is blank for some people. They have no value — usually someone added manually, which collects only the basics.

The QR image does not show. The client blocked remote images. This is why {{qr_code}} as text matters.

{{first_name}} shows their whole name. Their name did not split cleanly. Use {{full_name}} if it happens often.

You want a tag that does not exist. The list above is what is available. For anything else, use a campaign with a filtered audience and write it into the message.
