Assign badges to attendee types
Decide which template each kind of attendee gets, and set a default so nobody prints blank.

A template does nothing until it is assigned. This is the step people skip, and it surfaces on the morning of the event when a speaker prints a delegate badge.
Steps
- Open Badges and find Category assignment.
- For each attendee type, choose the template it should use.

Category assignment panel listing attendee types with a template dropdown each - Save.
Set an event default
In a template's Media settings, tick Event default. Anyone whose attendee type has no specific assignment gets this one.
Always have a default. Without it, an attendee type you forgot to assign has no badge at all, and that is discovered at the desk.
A workable set
Most events need two or three templates, not one per type:
| Template | Used by | Distinguished by |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Delegate, and the event default | Plain |
| Speaker | Speaker | Bold colour band |
| Staff | Staff, volunteers, crew | Different colour, larger type |
Press, VIP and sponsor can usually share the standard badge with a coloured band, rather than needing their own template.
What happens next
Assignment applies at print time, so changing it affects everything printed from that moment. Badges already printed are unaffected — reprint them if the assignment was wrong.
Common problems
Everyone gets the same badge. No per-type assignments, so everyone falls back to the default.
Some people print nothing. Their type has no assignment and there is no event default. Set one.
A speaker printed a delegate badge. They are registered as the wrong attendee type. Fix their record with Edit an attendee's details and reprint.
You created a template but it is not in the dropdown. Save it first.
You want a different badge per ticket, not per attendee type. Not supported — assignment is by attendee type. If two tickets need different badges, they need different attendee types. See Create attendee types.
