Undo a change with revision history

Each section keeps a history of its earlier versions. If an edit went wrong — or you preferred what was there yesterday — you can put it back.

Steps

1. Open Page editor and select the section.
2. Open Revisions.

   

3. Look through the earlier versions.
4. Restore the one you want.

What it covers

Revisions are per section, not per page. You restore one section at a time.

There is no whole-site undo, so a large restructuring is not reversed in one action — you would restore each section individually.

When it helps

• You rewrote a section and the original was better.
• Someone else on your team changed something and you want to see what it was.
• You deleted content inside a section by accident.
• An experiment did not work.

When it does not

• A deleted section. Deleting removes the section and its history with it. Hide sections instead of deleting them — see Reorder, duplicate, hide and delete sections.
• Theme changes. Colours and fonts are not versioned. Note your values before a big change.
• Page settings. Titles, slugs and SEO fields are not versioned.
• Another page. Revisions are section-scoped.

What happens next

Restoring changes your draft. It does not go public until you publish — so you can restore, look at it, and change your mind.

Common problems

The section has no revisions. It has not been edited since it was created.

You cannot find the version you want. History is not unlimited. For anything you might genuinely want back, keep your own copy of the text.

You restored the wrong version. Restoring is itself a change, so the version you moved away from should still be in the list.

The whole page needs reverting. Restore each section in turn. There is no page-level revert.

A deleted section is gone. It cannot be recovered. Rebuild it, and hide rather than delete next time.
